Oral surgery may be necessary to treat a variety of dental problems. At Pawhuska Dental, our experts ensure that your surgery is comfortable for you. Some of the oral surgeries offered at our practice include:
Sometimes, the density of a person’s jawbone may be too low to support a dental implant. In such a case, there are high chances of the implant surgery being unsuccessful. To enhance the success rate of the implant procedure, bone grafting is done. The bone graft may be taken from another area of the patient’s body itself, or maybe artificial.
The procedure begins with injecting a local anesthetic into the area. Then, an incision is made in the gum to access the jawbone and add the graft. Once the graft has been placed, the area is cleaned and sutured. The graft takes a few months to heal and create a strong, new bone structure which is secure and stable. Once the area has healed, implants can be placed in the jaw bone.
Tooth extraction is the procedure of removing a tooth from its socket in the jaw bone. Tooth extractions may be simple or surgical. Simple extractions are performed on teeth that can be seen in the mouth. They are loosened and pulled out with the use of dental instruments under the effect of local anesthesia. Surgical extractions are a slightly more complex procedure performed on teeth that have not fully erupted in the mouth.
One must exercise caution for a few days after undergoing a tooth extraction procedure. Follow the post-op instructions given by us to ensure proper healing. Avoid smoking, drinking with a straw and rinsing your mouth vigorously. Eat soft, cold foods and brush the area gently and carefully.
